ETHICS

Trees and the timber they provide are a renewable resource, however the timescales of production can reach five hundred years, and during their lifetime they are vital to the ecology of the planet. Genetics and growing conditions also produce unique individuals that will never be replicated. Over consumption, disease and destruction of forests threaten the future diversity of the natural world. Plant health is directly affected by human activity.

We hold historic timber stocks that have grown in natural unmanaged forests, and in British woodlands managed by generations of foresters over hundreds of years, to produce exceptional timber for future generations.

Many trees are cut too early in their life cycle, prior to reaching their full productive potential. High quality, high value, large diameter mature trees, produce wide, flat board widths, when correctly dried. Smaller diameter immature trees, produce narrower, less stable board widths, with a greater proportion of sapwood.

We are privileged to work with an extraordinary diversity of species, evolved over millions of years.

Miracles of time and a measurement of our lives
