Sequoia (Sequoia giganteum / Sequoia sempervirens) are lightweight to medium-density softwoods native to the western United States. The timber ranges in colour from pale reddish-brown to deep red, often darkening with age and exposure. The grain is generally straight with a fine, even texture, and the wood is known for its excellent dimensional stability and ease of working. Sequoia is naturally durable, with good resistance to decay and insect attack due to its natural extractives, although it is relatively soft compared to many construction timbers.

In the timber industry, sequoia is widely used for exterior cladding, decking, fencing, garden structures and architectural joinery where durability and appearance are important. It is also used for interior panelling, furniture, window frames and decorative millwork, particularly in premium or heritage-style construction. Its combination of natural durability, attractive colour and workability makes it a valued timber in both structural and high-end architectural applications. Durability and low density enable the timber to be used for the manufacture of shingles flumes, wooden pipes, vat making and organ building, particularly organ pipes.
