Pine – YELLOW – Quebec

- Softwood
- Non-durable
Yellow Pine (Quebec) generally refers to North American southern yellow pine species such as Pinus strobus (eastern white pine) and related regional softwoods supplied into the Quebec timber market. It is typically pale yellow to light brown in colour, sometimes with a slightly reddish tone, and has a straight grain with a medium texture. The wood is moderately lightweight to medium density depending on species mix, easy to machine and finish, and offers good strength for a softwood. However, its natural durability is limited, making it best suited to interior or treated exterior applications.
In the timber industry, Quebec yellow pine is widely used for structural framing, flooring, interior joinery, mouldings and general construction. It is also common in plywood, packaging, pallets and light industrial uses due to its strength-to-weight balance and availability. In higher grades, it is selected for furniture and architectural applications where a clean, workable softwood is required, particularly in North American-style construction systems.
