Pine – Radiata – modified with acetic acid (Accoya)

  • New Zealand
  • Softwood
  • Durable

Radiata Pine (Acetylated / Accoya) (Pinus radiata) is a fast-grown softwood that has been chemically modified through acetylation using acetic anhydride (commonly marketed as Accoya). This process permanently alters the wood's cell structure, significantly reducing its ability to absorb moisture. As a result, it achieves exceptional dimensional stability, greatly improved durability and high resistance to rot, fungi and insect attack. The modification also reduces swelling, shrinkage and warping, while retaining a light, uniform appearance and a fine, even texture.

In the timber industry, acetylated radiata pine is widely used for high-performance exterior and interior applications where stability and longevity are critical. It is commonly specified for windows, doors, cladding, decking, shutters and outdoor joinery, as well as premium architectural millwork. Its combination of sustainability, stability and low maintenance makes it a popular alternative to tropical hardwoods in modern construction, particularly in energy-efficient and environmentally conscious building design.
