Parana Pine (Araucaria angustifolia), also referred to as Brazilian Pine (USA), is a softwood native to southern Brazil, valued for its straight, uniform grain and pale, attractive appearance. It typically ranges from creamy white to light yellowish-brown, sometimes with a subtle sheen. The timber may be streaked with red, contains little resin, and varies from light and soft, to moderately hard and heavy. The wood has a fine to medium texture, and although lightweight compared to many hardwoods, offers good strength and dimensional stability when properly dried. It machines easily, takes nails and screws well, and finishes smoothly, although it has low natural durability and is not suitable for exposed exterior use without treatment.

In the timber industry, Parana pine is widely used for interior joinery, furniture, mouldings, panelling and general carpentry. It is also commonly used in plywood, veneers, packaging, crates and light construction applications due to its workability and availability. In higher grades, it is selected for cabinetry and decorative interior work where a clean, uniform appearance is desired, making it a versatile utility softwood in both commercial and residential construction.
