English Oak - Restoration Grade (Quercus robur / Quercus petraea) refers to oak specifically selected or reclaimed for use in conservation and heritage work, often sourced from historic buildings, old barns or carefully seasoned stock. It typically has a medium to deep golden-brown colour, sometimes darkened with age, and retains the species' characteristic ring-porous grain and coarse texture. The timber is heavy, strong and highly durable due to its natural tannin content, and restoration-grade material is valued for its stability, patina and character rather than uniform appearance.

In the timber industry, restoration-grade English oak is primarily used for the repair and replacement of structural and decorative elements in historic and listed buildings. This includes beams, framing, flooring, doors, panelling and architectural joinery where matching existing timber is essential. It is also used in conservation-led new work that requires traditional materials and methods, as well as bespoke joinery and millwork where aged character and proven durability are key requirements.
