Lime

Lime (Tilia spp., also known as linden) is a light, fine-textured hardwood native to Europe and parts of North America and Asia. It is typically pale cream to light yellowish-white in colour, with a very uniform appearance and a straight, even grain. The wood is soft, lightweight and easy to work, carving exceptionally well due to its fine, consistent texture and lack of visible grain definition. It has low natural durability and is not suitable for exposed or high-wear environments, but it is stable in dry interior conditions.

In the timber industry, lime is highly valued for carving, turnery, sculpture and detailed woodwork where precision and ease of shaping are important. It is widely used for furniture components, mouldings, musical instrument parts, models and pattern making. Because it produces a smooth, clean finish without splintering, it is also popular for decorative work and painted surfaces in traditional and contemporary woodworking applications.
