Larch – Siberian
- Russia
- Softwood
- Moderately durable
Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica / Larix gmelinii) is a dense, slow-grown softwood from cold regions of northern Russia. It typically has a pale yellow to reddish-brown heartwood with a narrow band of lighter sapwood. The grain is generally straight with a fine to medium texture, and the wood is notably resinous, contributing to its high natural durability. Siberian larch is strong for a softwood, with good hardness, dimensional stability and excellent resistance to decay and weathering, particularly in exterior conditions.
In the timber industry, Siberian larch is widely used for exterior cladding, decking, fencing and landscaping applications due to its durability and attractive appearance. It is also used in structural timber, joinery, roofing and outdoor constructions such as cabins and garden buildings. Its combination of strength, weather resistance and natural aesthetic makes it a popular choice for architectural projects, especially where untreated or minimally treated timber is preferred for sustainability and visual character.
