Hyedua (Daniella ogea) is a tropical African hardwood, typically sourced from West and Central Africa, and is valued for its rich appearance and good working properties. It usually has a medium to dark brown heartwood, sometimes with reddish or golden undertones, and a pale sapwood that is clearly defined. The grain is often straight to slightly interlocked with a fine to medium texture. The timber moderately dense, with good strength, stability and natural resistance to decay in protected environments, while also machining and finishing well to a smooth, attractive surface.
In the timber industry, Hyedua is used for furniture, cabinetry, interior joinery, veneers and decorative panelling. It is particularly suited to high-quality interior applications where a warm, rich appearance is desired, such as bespoke furniture and architectural millwork. It may also be used for flooring, stair components and turned items, especially in design-led projects. While not typically specified for heavy structural or exposed exterior use, it is valued for its combination of aesthetics, workability and reliable performance indoors.
