Vehicle components timber is used in the manufacture of a wide range of transport-related parts, including coach and wagon framing, truck bodies, flooring, interior fittings, load-bearing panels, and traditional automotive and rail vehicle components. It is also used in restoration work for vintage vehicles, where original materials and construction methods are replicated to maintain authenticity alongside structural performance.
This application requires timber with high strength, good shock resistance, dimensional stability and reliable performance under vibration, load and changing environmental conditions. Species such as European Ash are widely used for vehicle framing and components due to their excellent toughness and flexibility, allowing them to absorb impact and stress without failure. European Oak and American White Oak provide long-lasting structural durability and resistance to wear, making them ideal for vehicle bodies and flooring. Afzelia, Iroko and Opepe offer strong, naturally durable alternatives suited to heavy-duty and exterior-exposed components, while Hornbeam is valued for its hardness and abrasion resistance in smaller, high-wear parts.
Poplar is lightweight, and ideal for vehicle beds, due to its toughness and non-splintering properties.
