Tool components

Tool components timber is used in the manufacture of a wide range of hand and machine tool parts, including handles, mallet heads, planes, measuring tools, and precision components where strength, shock resistance and ergonomic performance are essential. It is also widely used in both traditional woodworking tools and specialist workshop equipment, where timber must withstand repeated impact, vibration and heavy manual use.

This application requires timber with high toughness, excellent shock resistance, fine and stable grain structure, and the ability to be shaped accurately while maintaining durability under stress. Species such as European Ash and American Ash are highly valued for tool handles due to their outstanding flexibility and ability to absorb shock without splitting. Hornbeam and Beech provide dense, hard-wearing qualities ideal for mallets, striking tools and mechanical components. For precision and specialist applications, Hornbeam and Pear wood offer fine grain and dimensional stability, while Rosewood (Honduras) and Ebony are used in high-end or precision tool components where density, wear resistance and fine finishing are critical.
