Marine piling, bridges and construction

Marine piling, bridges and construction timber is used in heavy-duty civil engineering and waterfront infrastructure, including bridge decks and supports, harbour and dock structures, sea defences, jetties, retaining walls and marine piling systems. These timber components are subjected to the extreme conditions of weather and tidal movement.

This application requires exceptionally durable, dense and hard-wearing timber with strong resistance to rot, marine borers, abrasion and long-term water exposure, while maintaining structural integrity under heavy loads. Species such as Greenheart and Ekki are highly valued for marine piling due to their extreme density and outstanding resistance to biological attack and wear. Balau, Iroko and Opepe are also widely used for structural marine and bridge work, offering excellent strength and durability in wet conditions.
