Decorative and inlay

Decorative and inlay timber is used for high-end ornamental applications where appearance, detail and craftsmanship are the primary focus. It is commonly found in fine furniture, musical instruments, luxury interiors, cabinetry, veneers, marquetry and intricate inlay work, where contrasting colours, grain patterns and textures are used to create detailed visual effects and refined surface decoration.

This application requires timber with exceptional figure, colour variation and workability. Species such as Black Walnut and English Walnut are widely used for their rich tones and elegant grain structure, making them ideal for fine furniture and veneer work. Ebony and Ebony Macassar provide striking contrast due to their deep black colouring and density, perfect for inlay and fine detailing. Yew (English) and Olivewood are highly prized for their dramatic grain patterns and natural variation, while Birdseye Maple and Sycamore (Rippled) are valued for their distinctive figuring, adding visual depth and complexity to decorative surfaces.
