Construction, industrial and engineering timber is used in a wide range of demanding structural and technical applications, including heavy-duty construction framing, civil engineering works, industrial flooring, bridge building, formwork, piling, railway sleepers, and utility infrastructure. It is also widely used where timber is required to perform in high-stress environments, often in contact with the ground, water or heavy mechanical loading, where long-term reliability is essential.
This application requires timber with exceptional strength, durability and resistance to wear, impact and biological attack, often combined with good dimensional stability under variable environmental conditions. Species such as Greenheart and Ekki are highly valued for marine and heavy civil engineering due to their extreme density and resistance to abrasion and decay. Douglas Fir and European Larch provide excellent structural strength and stiffness, making them ideal for heavy construction and load-bearing frameworks. European Oak remains a traditional engineering timber due to its proven durability and performance in structural and ground-contact applications, while Balau, Ekki, Greenheart, Iroko and Opepe offer robust, naturally durable alternatives suited to outdoor industrial and infrastructure use.
