Boxes and crates
Boxes and crates timber is widely used in packaging, storage and transportation applications, including shipping crates, export cases, industrial packaging, storage boxes and protective containers for machinery, tools and goods in transit. It is also commonly used for lighter-duty commercial packaging where items need to be safely contained, stacked and moved efficiently, often in both domestic supply chains and international shipping.
This application requires timber that is lightweight, economical and easy to work, while still offering sufficient strength and resistance to impact and handling stresses. Species such as European Whitewood Spruce and Sitka Spruce are commonly used due to their low density, good strength-to-weight ratio and ease of machining, making them ideal for mass-produced crates and export packaging. European Redwood Pine provides a slightly stronger and more resilient option for heavier loads, while Poplar is valued for its lightness and stability, particularly in applications where reducing overall shipping weight is important.
