This application requires timber with high shock resistance, toughness and durability, as it must withstand repeated impact, heavy loading and exposure to varying weather conditions. Species such as Ash (European) and Hornbeam are widely valued for tool handles due to their excellent strength, flexibility and resistance to splitting under stress. English and European Oak provide long-lasting performance in structural agricultural components thanks to their durability and resistance to decay, while species such as Afrormosia, Afzelia, Ipe, Iroko and Opepe are preferred for more exposed or heavy-duty applications where natural resistance to moisture and wear is essential.
